Growing up Nancy
Nancy knew by the 7th grade that she was going to become a physical therapist so she carved a path to UNC Chapel and was in one of the early graduates of the School of Physical Therapy. A majority of her PT career was in-home care so she was able to connect family members as they helped each other return to active life.

Time for a break so she returned to Chapel Hill for a Masters in Public Health which led her to the newly established medicare program for chronic renal disease. As NC’s coordinator for all the facilities providing Kidney dialysis and transplantation she travelled throughout the state and the country helping the program develop and become more stable.

After a couple year’s hiatus during which she spent a lot of time of a sailboat, she missed working with people in health care. She dusted off her books and did some refresher work as she happily returned to the home health setting as a PT.

Realizing that she had no interest in retirement, she looked for ways to expand her skills so she could practice for the rest of her life if she so chose. She had already been interested in alternative heath and the eastern way of seeing life when she met another PT who had gone to acupuncture school. Perfect!!

Within 6 months she had enrolled in the TIA program in Maryland. She sold a lot of her stuff, rented her house in Raleigh and moved north for three years to complete a Masters in Acupuncture. Instead of the more popular TCM program, she chose the Traditional Acupuncture or 5 Element style of practice developed in England by J.R. Worsley. .

Taking on a new and total different profession later in life was a real challenge but ultimately she returned to Raleigh, passed her National Exam and obtained her NC Acupuncture license ready to start her combined practice as a PT and LAc. She had opportunities to join some existing practices but realized she wanted to create her own program — Initially called Traditional Acupuncture and Rehabilitation and later changed to Elite Integrated Medicine. She has been in her current location for @ 6 years.
