Ellen Porter

Acupuncturist
Ellen Porter is a nationally board certified (NCCAOM), registered and licensed Acupuncturist. She joined our Ann Arbor community from Baltimore, Maryland. Currently, she is a part-time faculty member at Washtenaw Community College, Department of Life Long Learning. Call (734) 845-2166 for information.

She has her Master’s degree in Acupuncture from Maryland University of Integrated Health, formerly Tai Sophia Institute, the nation’s oldest accredited school for Acupuncture in the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University. Previously, her acupuncture practice included being the Acupuncturist for Harbor Hospital, Clinical Faculty Supervisor at Tai Sophia’s Baltimore student clinic, as well as private practice. As a faculty supervisor, she taught clinical skills, treatment planning, and point location accuracy.

Prior to returning to graduate school for acupuncture, Ellen held dual careers in systems analysis and training dogs. During the stressful time of the illness and passing of her mother and hurting her back, Ellen sought out acupuncture to ease the pain. “I wasn’t aware of how the body-mind connection worked until that time in my life. I thought I was ‘just getting older’. My stress and grief were creating significant pain in my body. I started getting acupuncture and noticed I no longer had headaches and my allergies were improving. With continued treatment, I was quickly able to let go of the load I was carrying emotionally and mentally and my lower back stopped hurting. It changed my life. Now I continue to receive acupuncture as part of my preventative health care.”

Ellen weaves her passions for teaching, personal development and preventative health care with the ancient art of acupuncture. As an Acupuncturist, she recognizes that each of us is unique. She spends time carefully listening and observing, with all her senses, to discover and understand what constitutes each person physically, emotionally and spiritually. Acupuncture is healing done in partnership, developing a respectful relationship that is designed to bring out the best possible outcome for each patient. Each treatment is uniquely designed for the individual. With acupuncture, both symptoms and their root causes are addressed thereby restoring the body’s natural ability to heal.
