Hello! My name is Dr. Lizzie Snow and welcome to my office. If a friend or family member referred you to me, you may have heard that my goal is to create a unique health and wellness experience for you and your family. I am passionate about helping families achieve their ultimate health potential. Why am I so passionate? Let me tell you a little bit about myself so you can understand why I do what I do.
I went to college ready to take on the world. I was having the time of my life working as a student athletic trainer, playing division I rugby at Notre Dame, and thought I was invincible. Despite all the glamour that surrounded me I was living a lie. I had constructed a double life. One where I wore a mask to make sure outsiders saw no flaws only the façade of perfection. The other life was full of unhealthy choices I made to disguise the depression and anxiety ravishing my inner world. I fell so deeply into a dark hole of despair that one morning I woke up in a hospital not knowing how I got there only to be told I had come within inches of losing my life the previous night. I was presented with a choice. Did I want to stay in a dark place full of lies consuming my life or did I want to forge a new path and live? I made my choice which included two commitments. The first was to change directions moving out of the shadows shedding my old skin in order to live. No more living a secret life, no more masks, and no more lies to myself or anyone else when it came to matters of health or when life was at stake. The second commitment I made was to walk shoulder to shoulder with others as they made their journey out of a dark corner in their own lives. I had received help in my transformation and now I wanted to offer the same to others in return.
By fate I found Chiropractic which allows me to continue my journey of health providing a vehicle to guide and serve others in need. I had no idea that being under Chiropractic care would help alleviate my depression, anxiety, and rid me of the migraines I suffered from throughout my lifetime. With on going wellness Chiropractic care I was freed from the chains preventing me from experiencing true health expression.
One day a mother came into the office along with two of her daughters. There is a certain look in a mother’s eye when she has reached the end of her rope. Searching for answers wondering when or even if one will find them is a journey into the unknown. I immediately noticed that look streaming from the mother’s eyes as she lovingly cradled her baby girl who was completely cross-eyed. The severity of the situation was obvious as the baby, Ava, had to scrunch up her face and look down her nose in an attempt to see me. As I sat with the mother, a sense of hopelessness became apparent as she explained the struggle she was in to find help for Ava. I respectfully explained how there are other less invasive way to help Ava’s vision. I could see the burden begin to lift from the mother’s shoulders and feel the relief as she took in a deep breath of hope for the first time since she walked in. Ava’s mother’s eyes brightened, her shoulders straighten, and a slight smile crossed her lips with the new possibilities for her daughter’s future. Ava began care that day and never missed an adjustment. Each time Ava came in it was like she leaned into the adjustment saying, “More! Please help! Keep it coming!” As time went on, Ava’s eyes were able to freely move away from the stuck position against her nose with her left eye moving first to follow her siblings and beloved toy caterpillar running across the room. Ava’s mother canceled the surgery and the joy in her now brilliant eyes brought me to tears reinforcing the commitment I had made to be the person others could count on.
While I was the doctor in this setting, I believe both Ava and her mother are the heroes of this story. The mother because she believed someone else could help instead of conceding to “just live with” her daughter’s condition (although her spouse rather enthusiastically suggested they take the surgery) and seek out someone who is truly committed to helping the people others have given up on. Ava is a hero because in addition to her eyes uncrossing and vision stabilizing she lead her nine brothers and sisters to Chiropractic care allowing them to live out their full health potential!
As your chiropractor my commitment level is necessarily high because of what I previously shared. Nothing satisfies me more than seeing true health expressed in people especially those with little hope because they were told it is not possible for them. I believe that all life is sacred. There is no hole, no circumstance too deep for someone to climb out of. It is my privilege and honor each time I witness a person reclaim their freedom when health is awakened within them. I welcome the opportunity to work with anyone who wants help. Consider this your invitation. Real heroes do not give up on themselves or their children. As a consequence of this many of us feel like an outsider, a stranger, or perhaps feel like we slipped through the proverbial cracks. At this office everyone is recognized and appreciated for their uniqueness because here there are no outsiders, only family members. Thank you for the opportunity to help you and your family.
