Deborah Torrance

Deborah Torrance is nationally board certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbology by the National Commission of Chinese Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She is licensed to practice in both New Jersey and New York.

Deborah completed her degree in acupuncture at the Tri-State Institute of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Stamford Ct. (now The Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NY, NY) in 1988 and later in Chinese Herbology in 1999. In 1995, Deborah completed a work-study in acupuncture in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) Vietnam.

She was a faculty member of the Eastern School of Acupuncture in Montclair, NJ where she taught theory and supervised a clinic for 3rd year students. She was also a board member for several years of the NJ Acupuncture Association.

In 1994, Deborah founded Family Acupuncture Center of Morris County in Denville, NJ. In 2001, following a need to be immersed in the rough beauty of Maine, Deborah sold the practice and moved to Mt. Desert, Maine to found Island Acupuncture. During her time there, she became an integral part of the island’s holistic health community, treating many patients, mentoring students and serving on many health panels.

In 2003 she traveled to Burkina Faso, West Africa and ran a free acupuncture clinic for the villagers of Dano, Burkina Faso, as well as working with others to help start the local women’s cottage industry of shea butter production and raising money to build wells in the area.

Deborah became interested in the study of acupuncture and Chinese theory after studying Asian philosophy in college and pursuing different avenues of holistic health in the 1970’s and 80’s such as yoga, vegetarianism, meditation and massage. Although no longer vegetarian, she has studied nutrition extensively and makes healthful balanced living a part of her practice.

Deborah’s specializes in women’s health and fertility as well as pain alleviation, stress management, dermatology and many other health issues.
