Cheryl D’ La Rotta

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Qualified Supervisor for the State of Florida. I am very sensitive to the issues of diversity, oppression, and discrimination. I am a Certified Trauma Professional with the ITAP and advocate in the issues of the LGBT, sexual assault survivors, childhood sexual abuse survivors, elderly abuse, intimate partner violence and many other types of trauma. I have created a safe and secure environment for my clients to unveil their lived experiences, as I help guide them towards their goals and a better way of life. My own lived experiences allow me to be vulnerable, empathetic, and non-judgmental to those who are culturally different from myself. I have been a Certified Family, Leadership, Dream, Quantum Coach, and NLP Practitioner for approximately 14 years. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I am a Certified Hypnotherapist, Neurocise Practitioner, Family Mediator, Couples Counselor, Forensic Assessor, SASSI/CAGE Assessor, and EMDR Specialist. I use an eclectic approach that includes Gestalt, Mindfulness, Inner Child, Recovery, and Grief therapies. I am currently getting my certification in Gambling Addiction and am a Doctoral Candidate for Walden University – Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision, specializing in Forensic Mental Health. I am currently taking participants for my dissertation research study: Interpersonal Violence Among Same-Sex Couples: The Survivor’s Perspective on Counselor Competency. Looking at the lived experiences of gay and lesbians individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence within their relationships and who have gone to a licensed professional for help. So if you know of anyone who would fit this criterion or if you have experienced IPV within your relationship(s) please contact me or pass this information on. I am currently doing TeleHealth/Zoom/Phone therapy sessions as well as in-office visits. My office is big enough to abide by the social distancing protocol. Again, I really enjoy counseling diverse populations and from these clients I learn many things, which I apply to my practice. I create a treatment plan that is designed especially for each client. I treat each client as complete and as experts of themselves, who wants a normal active life as his or her goal.
