Dr. Sarv Varta K. Khalsa, NMD, is a licensed Naturopathic Medical Doctor who graduated with high honors from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences. Upon graduating, she was honored to receive the Daphne Blayden Award for her “Commitment to Naturopathic Medicine, Academic Excellence, Compassion, Perseverance, a Loving Sense of Humor and a Positive, Supportive Outlook.” In addition, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University. *Each Living Wellness Medical Center associate provider is an independent contractor working collaboratively to provide complete wellness care for our patients. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa completed a Family Practice Residency Program through the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center, where she received specialized training in the area of acupuncture under the direction of the accomplished Dr. Yong Deng of Chengdu University in China. She also received extensive homeopathic training under the tutelage of Dr. Stephen Messer, a nationally recognized homeopath and founder of the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa is an Arizona native and grew up with healthy living and natural medicine as a central part of her life. Her parents adopted a yogic Sikh lifestyle around the time she was born, which eventually led to living in India for most of her formative years. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa greatly values her experience in India, where she received an excellent education and developed a broader, more compassionate view of humanity and of people who live in other areas of the world. This has helped her to relate and identify with people from other cultures and backgrounds. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa has been in practice for over a decade, and her clinical experience encompasses a variety of medical settings, including Naturopathic Family Practice, Urgent and Emergency Care, and working in outpatient settings with the chronically ill. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa served as the primary physician in a busy, acute care facility in Mesa, Arizona, that provided healthcare to under-served patient populations. She provided services for Mission of Mercy, a child sponsorship organization that helps to meet the medical, physical, and spiritual needs of children in poverty. She also served as a mentor and Supervising Physician to medical students completing clinical rotations at the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center in Scottsdale. She facilitated Women’s Wellness Exam Clinics and established a successful private family practice. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa’s unique experiences working with diverse populations, her supervisory role as physician and teacher, and her work with family practice, emergency medicine, and women’s health, allow her to provide integrative care with compassion and skill. She values the efficacy of medical research, and she published research in the esteemed medical journal, The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, in April 2005. Her passion, however, lies in clinical practice, where she values the one-on-one interaction with her patients. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa feels passionate about her role as a “doctor as teacher,” and she has taught and lectured at various institutions around the valley on topics related to health and naturopathic medicine. She currently teaches anatomy and physiology classes for the Yoga Teacher Training program at Inner Vision Yoga. In addition, Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa has been practicing Kundalini yoga for more than 20 years and is a teacher of this art. She carries on a 30-year teaching tradition started by her father. Dr. Sarv Varta Khalsa takes her experience in medicine and healthy living to approach patient care by considering the whole person. She is an integrative practitioner who draws from both conventional and natural medicine to provide her patients with the best medical options available.
